Weekly drops of wisdom from the banks of Mother Ganga

SAMSARA – THE WHEEL OF LIFEDearest divine family,

Most of us carry unspoken and even fearful questions about death: What happens when we die? Does the soul keep returning? Does karma follow us? Is liberation something that happens only after we die, or is freedom possible here, now, in this body.

Here is what the Vedic tradition teaches: The soul takes birth after birth, carrying with it what we call the subtle body, the Sukshma sharir, which holds all the identifying characteristics, all the mental, intellectual and egoic patterns and the imprints that make you feel like “you.” This subtle body travels with the soul through lifetimes until ultimate liberation is attained. At that moment of full moksha, the subtle body dissolves. And what remains is pure consciousness, reunited completely with the Divine.

In this clip from our sacred satsang each evening here at Parmarth Niketan, I share what Sanatan Dharma teaches about the soul’s journey through birth and death until the attainment of moksha. I speak about why enlightened beings often seem like windows through which you can glimpse something beyond personality. I explain why some awakened masters choose to return, not because they’re bound by karma, but because they’re free enough to come back and serve. And I offer something many overlook: the body is not an obstacle to liberation. It is the sacred ground in which awakening happens.

If you’ve ever wondered whether freedom is reserved for saints and sages or available to you right now, I invite you to watch this. It may shift how you see death and rebirth, how you understand the subtle body, and why this human life — right here, right now — is not something to escape, but something to fully inhabit.
