The 2-Minute Trick to Calm Your Mind Before MeditationDear Divine Parmarth family,

I remember the first time I heard Pujya Swamiji say that all day we’re so busy that God almost never comes to our mind. But the minute we sit down to meditate — to spend just five minutes with God — the entire world comes into our mind.  I laughed when I heard it the first time because it seems so crazy, and yet it’s 100% spot on truth!

If you’ve ever sat down to meditate and suddenly remembered seventeen urgent things you forgot to do, or found your mind chattering louder than it has all day, this isn’t a sign you’re failing at meditation. It’s a sign you’re human.  You’re not doing it wrong. It will happen like this nearly every single time, especially in the beginning.

I used to think meditation meant having a quiet mind. I’d sit there getting increasingly frustrated as thoughts crashed in like tsunami waves. Should I fight them?  Try to ignore them? Pretend they’re not there? None of that worked. Then Pujya Swamiji taught me something that changed everything: what to do with those thoughts when they inevitably arrive. It’s not about having fewer thoughts. It’s about a completely different relationship with them.

Here, in this clip taken from our evening satsangs at Parmarth Niketan, I share this one simple and super powerful thing you can do before you even close your eyes that makes everything easier. It takes only a few minutes, but it teaches your mind something crucial that transforms the entire experience.
