I’ve noticed that, around the world, it seems that everyone’s searching for their purpose, that “one thing” that magically is supposed to fulfill us. But we tend also assume that our purpose, once we find it, will be crystal clear, fall into our lap, and also happen to pay our bills! And of course it will be enjoyable. But what if it turned out that the very thing we are frantically searching for is actually keeping us from living it? I know that sounds ironic, but it’s true! All the panicked searching I see around the world as we look frantically for our purpose is the very thing keeping us far from it! We’ve been sold a story that purpose is something we find, like a lost object we dropped somewhere. We think it should be singular, obvious, and ideally profitable. The panic I see everywhere, as people ask in nearly every satsang: “I don’t know what my purpose is!” comes from this fundamental misunderstanding of what purpose actually means. Here’s what most of us don’t realize: Our highest purpose isn’t a job, a role, or even a calling. It’s much simpler and infinitely more profound than that. The Bhagavad Gita reveals this beautifully when Krishna speaks to Arjuna on two levels simultaneously….. but there’s a powerful twist in how these two levels weave together that changes everything. Most people miss this completely. They think purpose is either spiritual OR practical, either meaningful OR profitable. But there’s a third way that integrates both, and once you understand it, the desperate searching stops. You’ll know exactly what to do with your life—not because you found some external answer, but because you remembered something you always knew.
