The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, is organizing “Saushrutam 2026”, a three-day international seminar from 15 to 17 July 2026, along with a one-day pre-conference workshop on 14 July 2026, on the occasion of Sushruta Jayanti. Celebrated annually on 15 July, Sushruta Jayanti commemorates the legendary Acharya Sushruta, revered as the Father of Surgery.
The inaugural ceremony on 15 July 2026 will be graced by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. The Guests of Honour include Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav; the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu; Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha; and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri.
Speaking about the seminar, Prof. (Vd.) P.K. Prajapati, Director, AIIA, said, “Saushrutam 2026aims to provide a unique international platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge, evidence-based surgical practices, technological innovations, and the timeless surgical wisdom of Acharya Sushruta. The seminar seeks to strengthen academic collaboration between Ayurvedic and modern surgical disciplines while promoting research, innovation, and excellence in surgical education.”
Prof. Prajapati further added, “With the participation of globally acclaimed experts, policymakers, educators, researchers, and clinicians, Saushrutam 2026 promises to be one of the most significant international academic events in the field of Ayurvedic surgery, reaffirming India’s commitment to preserving, promoting, and advancing the rich surgical heritage of Ayurveda.”
Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Badwe, Organising Chairman said, “Saushrutam 2026, organized by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, will feature a comprehensive scientific programme comprising keynote lectures, live surgical demonstrations including Robotic surgery (the first of its kind in an Ayurvedic hospital in India), general, laparoscopic, vascular, breast surgery, uro-surgery, and ano-rectal surgeries with dedicated sessions on proctology and reconstructive surgery, integrative oncology, medico-legal aspects, intellectual property, panel discussions, workshops, and oral and poster presentations.”
The scientific sessions will also cover the surgical principles of Acharya Sushruta, wound management, Agnikarma, Ksharasutra, Marma Chikitsa, and emerging research in Shalya Tantra.
Dr. Vyasadeva Mahanta, Organising Secretary said, “The seminar will conclude with a multidisciplinary panel discussion, fostering evidence-based dialogue, innovation, and collaboration while strengthening research, education, and clinical excellence in Ayurvedic surgery.”
The seminar will witness the participation of renowned academicians and surgeons from Austria, Greece, Indonesia, Israel, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United Kingdom and India, who will share their expertise and experiences. More than 30 eminent national experts, including Padma Shri Prof. M. Sahu and Padma Shri Prof. K.K. Thakral, along with distinguished faculty from premier institutions such as AIIA, IMS-BHU, NIA Jaipur, ITRA Jamnagar, and other leading surgical centres across the country, will participate in the seminar. Eminent modern surgical experts from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, Government Medical College, Agartala, and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, will also contribute to the scientific deliberations.
The seminar is expected to foster a multidisciplinary exchange between Ayurveda and contemporary surgical sciences, while strengthening research, education, innovation and clinical excellence in the field of Ayurvedic surgery.
