Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium turned into a vibrant celebration of colour, music and dance as Delhi Tourism and the Delhi Government organised the two-day Dandiya Utsav 2026 on 11th and 12th Oct 2026, marking the festive spirit of Navratri.

Inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the presence of Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra and other dignitaries, the festival drew thousands of young people and other visitors, who arrived in colourful traditional attire to dance to the rhythmic beats of Garba and Dandiya.

The objective of the Dandiya Festival is to promote traditional Indian folk dance, music, and the rich heritage of the festivities. This festival not only offers an opportunity for entertainment and a cultural experience for the residents of Delhi but also marks a significant step towards establishing Delhi as a vibrant cultural capital.

The event brought Gujarat’s folk traditions to the heart of the capital, blending cultural performances with contemporary entertainment. Holding Dandiya sticks and moving in synchronised steps, participants transformed the venue into a lively celebration of community, music and festive camaraderie.

The musical highlight of the festival was a performance by the Malhotra Sisters, which had the audience dancing to their tunes, followed by an energetic DJ set. The concluding day featured Sumit Shetty and the Vaishnavi Band. Food stalls and other cultural attractions added to the festive experience, while free entry made the event accessible to the public.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the Delhi Government’s vision of developing the capital into a major destination for culture, entertainment and large-scale public celebrations. She reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening Delhi’s cultural identity and bringing diverse cultural experiences closer to its residents.

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said the initiative aimed to bring people together through shared celebrations and provide more opportunities for citizens to experience India’s rich cultural traditions.

With its blend of traditional folk dance, live music, food and youthful energy, Dandiya Utsav 2026 offered Delhiites an opportunity to welcome Navratri in a spirit of joy and togetherness, reinforcing the role of public festivals in keeping India’s cultural heritage alive.
