As the festive season unfolds with Navratri, Delhi’s Mini Bengal — Chittaranjan Park — is abuzz with anticipation for its most cherished tradition: Durga Puja. From October 15–21, the Chittaranjan Park Kali Mandir Society will host the Sri Sri Durga Puja Celebration 2026, drawing lakhs of devotees and visitors to its iconic temple grounds.
Preparations Rooted in Tradition, Powered by Women
Months of meticulous planning culminate in this week-long celebration. “Our theme this year is Nari Shakti,” said Prodip Ganguly, Chairman of the Cultural Committee, underscoring the pivotal role of women in organising and managing every aspect of the festival. From cultural competitions to crowd management, women’s participation is woven into the fabric of the Puja.
Pre-Puja activities began on September 19, with competitions in Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, classical music, and recitation, engaging participants across Delhi-NCR. These cultural events set the stage for the five days of rituals and festivities.
Five Days of Faith and Festivity
The celebrations formally commence with Anandamela on Panchami — a women’s fair of food and crafts — followed by the unveiling of the idol on Shashthi. Rituals are conducted by multiple priests, while volunteers and committee members ensure seamless coordination. With daily footfall crossing one lakh, the Puja is among the largest outside Bengal, enhanced by livestreams that connect devotees worldwide.
Security, Safety and Crowd Management
Managing such vast gatherings requires precision. CCTV surveillance, disaster management teams, and coordination with Delhi Police, fire services, and hospitals form the backbone of safety arrangements. Special facilities are in place for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and local residents, ensuring inclusivity and comfort.
Tradition Meets Sustainability
True to its roots, CR Park follows the Ekchala Murti tradition, where Durga and her children share a single arch. This year’s idol, crafted from straw and clay with organic paints, reflects an eco-friendly ethos. The pandal, built largely with bamboo and wood, reinforces the commitment to sustainability.
Beyond Rituals: A Cultural and Social Homecoming
Durga Puja at CR Park is as much a social reunion as a religious observance. Families gather, friends reconnect, and visitors indulge in food and shopping. Stalls offering Bengali attire, handicrafts, jewellery, and traditional delicacies transform the temple grounds into a vibrant bazaar. With additional days of Saptami observances, the festive atmosphere promises to be even more expansive this year.
A Celebration of Women’s Strength
The theme of Nari Shakti resonates deeply, aligning with the spirit of Navratri and the worship of the feminine divine. As Ganguly noted, the festival is not only about devotion but also about recognising women’s power in society. “We invite everyone to join us, celebrate responsibly, and experience the richness of Bengali culture,” he said.
Chittaranjan Park Kali Mandir Society is set to present a vibrant six-day cultural extravaganza during Durga Puja, from October 15 to 20, featuring an eclectic mix of classical music, dance performances, musical ensembles and live band shows.
